Always a treat to see your artwork used in such horrific ways. Seems like you've come a long way in terms of coding, also. The music, the art style, the color (or lack of); they all fit together so well. My only critique is to watch your stage boarders; I can see just a little bit outside of the area that I was intended. It may just be with my computer, but when you expand the game, it gets even worse. I'd suggest you make your own stage on the top most layer that blacks out a good portion of the area outside the stage, that's what I do.
Otherways, congratulation on another wonderful game completed!

Love your attention to detail with the violence, as always. Nice one.

The art not being one of them. Seriously, I admire your artwork. I can't wait to see what you can do when you animate.
I see a lot of little things that could be improved. The tentacles that come out, the direction in which the girl is facing, sound effects, score, etc. These are things that aren't really important by themselves, but if all left out, will hurt the game quite a lot.
I see a lot of potential though, maybe as you get to the end, the creature who's trying to grab you with it's tentacles comes out as sort of a boss. Then maybe also get some powerups along the way so that you can gain a more destructive weapon.
I disagree about it being too cluttered or confusing, I like the pace and the atmosphere, and the building's going by in front of you make for a good effect.
All in all, it's a game that just needs some more work done. Keep on progressing!

Thanks buddy! I will always look up to you as an animator! Hopefully I can get at least half as good as you are.

K, well, until IamWeird came along with his "drugs are bad, mmk?" review, I was just gonna let this one slide. Maybe it your intention to get a rise out of people, in which case, "Ya got me!".
Getting passed Bush's propaganda against pot, which have already spoiled so many of the youth into believing pot will ruin your life if you even consider doing it (didn't they say the same about alcohol at one point?), I think it would totally do the country good if we'd legalize it. All we'd have to do is make an age requirement just like cigarettes and booze, and I don't see how it could be worse than either of those. Then a variety of perks will emerge. It would generate billions of dollars, put a little bit of power back into the hands of farmers, decrease crime (not only do people stop going to jail for pot, but more people [people that could potentially cause crime] will be too stoned to leave the house. Also it would be closed as a gateway drug), and decrease taxes (with all the people NOT going to jail because of pot, we'd have a whole lot less inmates to take care of, right? I think that crosses out one of your arguments)
And now let me educate you all on drugs. There are some bad drugs out there, it's true! REAL bad. But we can't avoid all drugs, and anyone that says that they've never been on drugs before or don't need drugs doesn't realize this: Any chemical that changes your mood is a drug whether it be endorphins from running or the reaction to a loved one. So with that (and this is something that can be explained in the movie 'What the @#%^& do we know?'), there is hardly anyone out there that isn't addicted to something, whether it be an emotion, a physical object, an action, whatever. Your addiction, for example, is ranting. I bet it gives you some sort of satisfaction from a chemical reaction in your head when you do it, compelling you to do it again and again, maybe even to the point where you can't even stop yourself from doing it. You already covered this argument, but I don't think you realize the extent of it. People that belittle others just because they have an addiction are just being hypocritical.
Comes to the final thing that I just thought was ridiculous. 'Life is stressful, and we should all just get over it' No stress relievers, huh? Well then, there goes movies, video games, sex, beating off, vacations, happy thoughts, flash animations, the internet, exercise, ranting, color, thought....we might as well sign ourselves up to take the place of the cow.
C'mon...be a little more sensible than that. I usually get a kick out your animations and I hope you continue to express your opinion as long as you are open-minded to others. Just had to go out on a rant here myself. Pot has been one of those subjects I've felt strongly about recently because it's history shows that it's a very racist and unconstitutional law and most people nowadays don't realize that.
Sure, it may have some health issues, but no more than cigarettes or alcohol.
And sure a lot of potheads are retards, so are a lot of drunks.

I can tell you put a lot of work into this game so I'll try putting a lot of work in this review.
I'm gonna go ahead and come out saying that I'm one of those people that think this game is too hard. Not in the sense that I lack gaming skills, but in the sense that this is a broken game.
I honestly wouldn't of played it a second time if there hadn't been NG medals I could earn here. So you owe a lot to NG for hooking you up with that.
Anyways, on the second try (after getting too frustrated from not being able to get passed the first level on the easiest setting) things clicked and I was able to get by untouched. Like you said, there are strategies to each monster, and using the backward dodge is key.
This got me all excited cuz I thought I had mastered a difficult game. So I kept playing. These are my thoughts as I play:
- I can understand your need to make a difficult game. But saying that becomes a cop-out or excuse for bad game design when you throw in a difficulty option. This implies that if you aren't as hardcore as others, you can select the easiest setting and go through the game, admire the artwork/story/etc and still have a good time. Also, there is little difference from the actual difficulty when you go from easy to impossible. Sure there are a few more monsters, they have more health, and they can do more damage, but if you couldn't get hit on easy mode, you won't be able to get hit on hard mode. In fact, despite it's ominous name, I found Impossible mode a whole lot easier to deal with than 'Mortal'. Cash was rolling in a whole lot faster and I could get high style points pretty quickly. Advice: Don't slap on a difficulty option and then blame the users for not being able to keep up, when, really, you didn't put that much thought into it.
- I couldn't help but to run into your proud boss. I wouldn't use 'hardest' boss battle in history...but I could see it being the 'longest' boss battle in history. Seriously, it blocks EVERY time you take a swing at it, even if you are behind it, it is in mid attack-swing...anything. You might as well of made it a rock and spared us the frustration of trying to get around it blocking.
But all you really have to do to beat it is to go into your devil mode, and get into a pattern of going at it from behind, rolling back as it swings/pokes, and repeat until it eventually dies. Thank god you programmed so that it would take damage while blocking or you would be right...it would be the hardest boss battle in history...YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BEAT IT AT ALL. Advice: Put some more thought into making an enemy more difficult to beat besides having it block 24-7.
-Final boss teleports...didn't see that one coming. (Sorry...a cliche that I've started to notice that I'm very upset with)
-Why didn't I get my award for beating the game? or maxing out any of my magic?
-My character disappeared, and I can move the camera around the level. Huh?
-I beat Godzilla, now I'm standing over his headless body while nothing is happening...have to close the game and restart...
-Make an exit to main menu option! I dunno how many times I had to close the game simply to restart.
-Some way of getting off the ground without immediately getting hit again if you're cornered? Slow certain death.
-rapidly tapping the 'F' key to activate and deactivate your devil mode enables you to be pretty much invincible. Something that I happily took advantage of in the minion levels. HEE HEE!
All this considered, you can't rightly justify your argument that we don't know what we're talking about when we say it's too hard. (Some of us do know what we're talking about) And is why I declare it a broken game, too many errors.
That all said, you did a wonderful job with the mechanics. This is very close to how I think a flash game of DMC would work. You just REALLY need to think things over and polish out kinks before you release the final product.
Keep up the work, and give kudos to the artist. Very nice.
-Flecko
P.S. I'm writing a few more lines just so that I can use the max amount of characters.

Only in this game can you go toe to toe with Scorpion only to go on to trade Hadukens with Tupac. I gave up when I got to Chuck Norris. I can't say that this is a good game in the 3-D world, but it's nice to see that ability come to flash. I would touch up the animation and physics, make it so you get damaged from blocking (if ever so slight so that the fighter can't just sit there and block forever), and set up some unique character move-sets.
Also, was there some reason the directional buttons weren't the usual WASD? Just thought that was interesting.
That all aside, I still give you props for making a 3-D game in flash. Very intriguing.

I myself have read the Watchmen, and I did enjoy all the bits in there that really hint (almost spoil) the comic's scenes. The jokes didn't hit me until the whole thing was over, making their appearance with an announcing "HA!". Dr Manhattan causing cancer...
Great stuff. I must surely give you a good review.

Heh. I appreciate the shout out. It was a very humbling experience to see my own stuff used in other flashes.
I've always wondered about what kind of things I could do with animating on top of a video. This flash definitely broadens my horizons a little more. And I think it would be absolutely awesome if everyone was able to make a video like this; maybe even be able to run it off of your profile too...hmm...being able to mass produce this would be a little hard, though. Hurry up, Technology!
Anyways, good flash and great to get to know you, cobra!

Author's Response:
Hey there! I am surprised that you came across this, I didn't think that any of the four authors who's works I mentioned would see it. I agree with you that everyone should have one of these, but there are a few problems I realized would arise if that were so. As much as I would like to see everyone make a video like this, expressing who they are, I feel as though the great ones that weren't submitted until later on would go unnoticed because people have "seen this before." You would also have the countless people who take advantage of the style like they did with stick figures. Sticks used to be respected and look at what amateurs have done to them. Sorry for the rambling, I think quite a bit when it is quiet. Thank you very much for the review and keep up with those masterpieces like Aladdin 3150 and T.E.S.S.O.N.A.S.
P.S. since you were wondering what you could do with animation on video, I think that your smooth animation style would be perfect for such a video. Frame by frame animation and videos get along quite well. Good luck if you ever decide to make one or something similar...I am sure you would not disappoint.

This is a nice flash animation. The movements and camera shots could use some work. For example, try some shots to establish to the viewer where this fight it taking place, or who all is fighting. There were no camera shots outside of close up here so the viewer kinda feels alien or unclear to what is going on. Also take note on the 12 principles of animation, mainly slow-in, slow-out, arcs, exaggeration, anticipation, and stretch and skew.
Overall, for your first flash, this is amazing. I look forward to seeing more from you.

The enclosed quarters made me feel a little claustrophobic. Maybe this is a good thing, to keep the player in panic, but it got frustrating when I lost a life or two straight off the bat. The moving blocks was a nice touch, but maybe a little too simple to keep the players interest for that long. Nice little time waster.
By the way, you need to reset the fadercnt to 0 every time the player presses the start button.
-Flecko-
Author's Response:
well thats the ratio powers gave us. i didnt want to challenge it until at least after the course. possibly over winter break. what do you mean losing a life off the bat? the ball spawns over the paddle to the left the first time. i did that as a courtesy cuz its unfair that the ball would first spawn at the center when the button is to the left. and it re spawns in the center like normal breakout games. i tried to add more animation, but the stupid code said no, NO. so idk what to do about that. lastly, idk how to set the fadercnt to 0, at least i dont think. flash is so wonky somethimes. neway. if you have the code, be more than encouraged to send it to me.
