Very nice!

This is the type of RPG I grew up on. Simple, straight forward, but engaging and fun. Thank you for reminding me what a joy it is and providing me with further inspiration. I'll be coming back to play this game more later!

Cruel

This game is obviously remarkable in it's gameplay, originality, and artwork. You should well know that. So for all that I salute you. ^_^

...But...I found the random glitches to be QUITE troublesome. There will be times when I'm run-jumping across gaps, and at random times I would lose my balance like I slipped on something. Also when I'm running of the side of something, sometimes it'll freak out and put me to a nose dive into the ground. Then running up the smooth ramps are always risky because it will randomly decide to trip me...And finally wall jumping also seemed dreadful, especially in long usage, cuz, again, at random times it will freak out and cause me to plummet to the ground instead of stick to a wall.

This came in particularly frustrating on the last gold metal I was to get for the normal difficulty at circuit 5 - stage 6. I more or less got the whole level down flawlessly; it just came down to whether or not I was gonna get screwed on the long towers up, which, 9 times out of 10, I was; if not on the first one, then the second one. After about an hour and a half of play this one level, I finally got to the top in a successful manor, at 1:14, and I sh*t you not, I trip at the very tip of the last ramp, tumble past the finish guy, and off the edge of the platform. This is pretty much when I gave up. I'm pissed of course, but it makes for a good story. I'll try again later. But note my strong complaint. I'm sure you're working on it. I enjoyed the game and I'd very much like to continue it.

Otherwise, I could see a pitfall-esk rope obstacle fit in very nicely if you ever decide on a sequel or adding anything to this. Then there's thrown boulders, crumbling platforms, and mini vehicles...but then now I'm just taking stuff from MXC.

Good work!

Awesome

I really like the game concept behind this. Makes even pressing a single button fun. I give kudos to you.

Needs work on glitches, though. The first time I played, I was getting myself hit on purpose (as soon as I figured out you could level up your fortitude and health that way), and I ended up getting stuck in a state of flickering, making me invincible for the rest of the game. That, by itself, was a fun glitch, so I don't wanna complain :P Just thought you should know.

Great game!

Sweet Magic

Always a treat to see your artwork used in such horrific ways. Seems like you've come a long way in terms of coding, also. The music, the art style, the color (or lack of); they all fit together so well. My only critique is to watch your stage boarders; I can see just a little bit outside of the area that I was intended. It may just be with my computer, but when you expand the game, it gets even worse. I'd suggest you make your own stage on the top most layer that blacks out a good portion of the area outside the stage, that's what I do.

Otherways, congratulation on another wonderful game completed!

Much to be improved

The art not being one of them. Seriously, I admire your artwork. I can't wait to see what you can do when you animate.

I see a lot of little things that could be improved. The tentacles that come out, the direction in which the girl is facing, sound effects, score, etc. These are things that aren't really important by themselves, but if all left out, will hurt the game quite a lot.

I see a lot of potential though, maybe as you get to the end, the creature who's trying to grab you with it's tentacles comes out as sort of a boss. Then maybe also get some powerups along the way so that you can gain a more destructive weapon.

I disagree about it being too cluttered or confusing, I like the pace and the atmosphere, and the building's going by in front of you make for a good effect.

All in all, it's a game that just needs some more work done. Keep on progressing!

CutelilDeadGirl responds:

Thanks buddy! I will always look up to you as an animator! Hopefully I can get at least half as good as you are.

I tried.

I can tell you put a lot of work into this game so I'll try putting a lot of work in this review.

I'm gonna go ahead and come out saying that I'm one of those people that think this game is too hard. Not in the sense that I lack gaming skills, but in the sense that this is a broken game.

I honestly wouldn't of played it a second time if there hadn't been NG medals I could earn here. So you owe a lot to NG for hooking you up with that.

Anyways, on the second try (after getting too frustrated from not being able to get passed the first level on the easiest setting) things clicked and I was able to get by untouched. Like you said, there are strategies to each monster, and using the backward dodge is key.

This got me all excited cuz I thought I had mastered a difficult game. So I kept playing. These are my thoughts as I play:

- I can understand your need to make a difficult game. But saying that becomes a cop-out or excuse for bad game design when you throw in a difficulty option. This implies that if you aren't as hardcore as others, you can select the easiest setting and go through the game, admire the artwork/story/etc and still have a good time. Also, there is little difference from the actual difficulty when you go from easy to impossible. Sure there are a few more monsters, they have more health, and they can do more damage, but if you couldn't get hit on easy mode, you won't be able to get hit on hard mode. In fact, despite it's ominous name, I found Impossible mode a whole lot easier to deal with than 'Mortal'. Cash was rolling in a whole lot faster and I could get high style points pretty quickly. Advice: Don't slap on a difficulty option and then blame the users for not being able to keep up, when, really, you didn't put that much thought into it.

- I couldn't help but to run into your proud boss. I wouldn't use 'hardest' boss battle in history...but I could see it being the 'longest' boss battle in history. Seriously, it blocks EVERY time you take a swing at it, even if you are behind it, it is in mid attack-swing...anything. You might as well of made it a rock and spared us the frustration of trying to get around it blocking.
But all you really have to do to beat it is to go into your devil mode, and get into a pattern of going at it from behind, rolling back as it swings/pokes, and repeat until it eventually dies. Thank god you programmed so that it would take damage while blocking or you would be right...it would be the hardest boss battle in history...YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BEAT IT AT ALL. Advice: Put some more thought into making an enemy more difficult to beat besides having it block 24-7.

-Final boss teleports...didn't see that one coming. (Sorry...a cliche that I've started to notice that I'm very upset with)

-Why didn't I get my award for beating the game? or maxing out any of my magic?

-My character disappeared, and I can move the camera around the level. Huh?

-I beat Godzilla, now I'm standing over his headless body while nothing is happening...have to close the game and restart...

-Make an exit to main menu option! I dunno how many times I had to close the game simply to restart.

-Some way of getting off the ground without immediately getting hit again if you're cornered? Slow certain death.

-rapidly tapping the 'F' key to activate and deactivate your devil mode enables you to be pretty much invincible. Something that I happily took advantage of in the minion levels. HEE HEE!

All this considered, you can't rightly justify your argument that we don't know what we're talking about when we say it's too hard. (Some of us do know what we're talking about) And is why I declare it a broken game, too many errors.

That all said, you did a wonderful job with the mechanics. This is very close to how I think a flash game of DMC would work. You just REALLY need to think things over and polish out kinks before you release the final product.

Keep up the work, and give kudos to the artist. Very nice.

P.S. I'm writing a few more lines just so that I can use the max amount of characters.

Made me laugh

Only in this game can you go toe to toe with Scorpion only to go on to trade Hadukens with Tupac. I gave up when I got to Chuck Norris. I can't say that this is a good game in the 3-D world, but it's nice to see that ability come to flash. I would touch up the animation and physics, make it so you get damaged from blocking (if ever so slight so that the fighter can't just sit there and block forever), and set up some unique character move-sets.

Also, was there some reason the directional buttons weren't the usual WASD? Just thought that was interesting.

That all aside, I still give you props for making a 3-D game in flash. Very intriguing.

Was okay

The enclosed quarters made me feel a little claustrophobic. Maybe this is a good thing, to keep the player in panic, but it got frustrating when I lost a life or two straight off the bat. The moving blocks was a nice touch, but maybe a little too simple to keep the players interest for that long. Nice little time waster.

By the way, you need to reset the fadercnt to 0 every time the player presses the start button.

Jfaux responds:

well thats the ratio powers gave us. i didnt want to challenge it until at least after the course. possibly over winter break. what do you mean losing a life off the bat? the ball spawns over the paddle to the left the first time. i did that as a courtesy cuz its unfair that the ball would first spawn at the center when the button is to the left. and it re spawns in the center like normal breakout games. i tried to add more animation, but the stupid code said no, NO. so idk what to do about that. lastly, idk how to set the fadercnt to 0, at least i dont think. flash is so wonky somethimes. neway. if you have the code, be more than encouraged to send it to me.

What the f*ck is this?

I hate it, it sucked! I mean, honestly, how would the world NOT be completely wiped out if there were that many Hilary's around? Its just unrealistic! Maybe if you made some back story about how Hilary and Hitler shacked up and made a bunch of fire-babies. Yeah...what were you thinking?! *shakes head*

(You know I love ya...call me...*bites lip*)

PresidentZen responds:

Thank god! A voice of reason! Thanks for stopping by, my man! I know, not everyone can be as gifted as the almighty Flecko! Believe that!

It's embarrassing to put up my early toils! At the same time though, I think it should be cool to see my progress. I'm getting some real honest answers, and some real good advice!

See ya around Flecko! (and don't worry, I'll call... Just maybe not this weekend!)

Damn those fratboys

I agree with previous reviews; the game is pretty fun, but it gets a little too hard to accomplish around wave 20, n I blame that on the lack of money that is provided. Maybe give out a little more than one more gold piece per 5 waves, or give out bonuses that multiply in value for getting though waves unscathed. Also, the animations did lag more and more the further I got, and unlike the last guy who brought this up, I do have a pretty good computer. Might be something you wanna fix because they look like they'd be fun to watch.

Bringing you what I think is entertaining!
